Next steps

As was noted in the Introduction to this strategy, the timetable
for producing this first Regional Housing Strategy for the North
West has been extremely tight. While many partners have had opportunities
to contribute to that process, the Board would not pretend that
there has been sufficient opportunity to debate and agree a coherent
regional view on our collective priorities. The debate needs to
reach beyond the housing professionals (valuable though they are)
to involve residents and tenants, the whole range of private sector
interests, the health sector, and so on. This Strategy is therefore
an interim document.
We will begin the work of producing a better informed, better argued
and more comprehensive Strategy immediately. It will need to have
a broader focus, setting out more clearly the wide range of issues
impacting on the quality of life in communities across the North
West, and the role of housing within that broader strategic context.
It will seek to learn lessons from successes achieved by partners
in different parts of the region and reinforce and extend those
achievements. It will be the next step toward the closer alignment
of the strategies and (more importantly) the decisions and programmes
of the North West's key regional organisations. We will, over the
coming months, seek a much more inclusive and intensive discussion
with people and organisations across the region to help us drive
this Strategy and the North West of England forward.
