Our Vision

Achieving the vision for the North West set out in the 2000 Regional
Housing Statement remains our long-term goal.
High quality housing is a vital part of the North West's competitive
position - a region which provides attractive and vibrant communities
to live in will encourage skilled and talented individuals to settle
and contribute to economic success. By working to remove the barriers
to social inclusion faced by people living in poor housing in neighbourhoods
offering limited social and economic opportunities, we can help
to lift the overall performance of the region and enhance our collective
quality of life.
Our vision is a region working together to ensure that every part
of the North West offers everyone
a choice of good quality housing in successful, secure and
sustainable neighbourhoods.
The North West should be a region which
Involves people and communities in planning their futures,
Invests in sustainable neighbourhoods,
Provides a range of high quality properties for sale and rent,
Supports the development of mixed communities,
Rejuvenates our urban areas so they are the first choice for all
kinds of households,
Promotes sustainable rural communities,
And replaces obsolete housing in a planned and balanced way.
Success in achieving this vision will be a major contribution to
realising the vision set out in the North West Regional Economic
Strategy 2003 ( "To transform England's Northwest through
sustainable economic development" ), accords with the seven
key objectives of Regional Planning Guidance , and meets the principles
established in Action for Sustainability .
Questions

Is this vision still appropriate for the North West ? Is it ambitious
enough ?
More work

We need to tie together the various visions for the region to see
whether they make collective sense and contribute to the alignment
of the different regional strategies for the North West.
